My husband introduced me to the world of Doctor Who. This inspired me to transform his old tea box into something a bit more exciting! I definitely wanted to include the Tardis and a Dalek serving tea (from Victory Of The Daleks). It is, after all, a tea box.
Step 1 - Sketch
I roughly sketched out the main design.
Step 2 - Demolition
I removed the original shadow box pieces, including the canvas, from the wooden backboard.
Step 3 - Creating the Pieces
I painted the wooden backboard using Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Paint.
1. I applied two coats for the black background, then added the stars, and finished with painting the vortex travel effects.
2. Using Painters' Paper (with a canvas texture), I sketched and painted the Tardis and Dalek. I cut out the painted image, removing the excess painters' paper.
3. Because it was a shadow box, I wanted the Tardis to pop out from the background. Using the Painters' Paper again, I cut and folded a rectangular block, gluing the edges together. After that dried, I painted the block white to match the vortex effect.
Step 4 - Assembly
Using Gorilla Super Glue, I first glued the rectangular block to the center of the vortex effect and then attached the Tardis to the rectangular block.
Step 5 - Finishing Touches
After gluing the backboard back into the box, I used a Deco Color Liquid Gold Marker to write the Dalek's line, "Would you care for some TEEEA?"
